An Online Food Journal

Nom. Nom.

May 18, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Food Journal

I’m having some problems with my new Bodybugg that are extremely irritating.  I hope I get it resolved soon.  Rather than let it derail my progress from last week I’m doing my best to stay on track so I can reach my goal for the RKC (kettlebell) certification.

Breakfast
oatmeal with cinnamon
2 hardboiled eggs

This is one of my favorite breakfasts. It’s so simple but so satisfying.

Snack
Banana
Almond Butter

I didn’t take a picture.  I know.  Devastation!!

Lunch
Chili (that was the last of it for a few days.
Salad with spinach, romain, cherry tomatoes, apple , and Goddess dressing.

Snack
Sun dried artichoke dip with red bell pepper.

Dinner

We went to Taco Tuesday at a local Mexican food restaurant.  I ordered two grilled fish tacos. To save calories I took one tortilla off of each one (they use two per taco).  I also didn’t have any chips.  Why?  Because I love them and I know if I have one then I have to have 2 baskets full.  It was best for me to just avoid them.

Dessert

I had some raw honey.  My throat has been bothering me and it really helps.  So that’s what I tell myself.

Happy to be Stuck in a Rut.

May 17, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Food Journal

I tend to get stuck in a rut with my food and will go days (sometimes weeks) at a time eating the same things.  Then suddenly, I’ll have a hankering for, say egg salad, and eat that for a few days.  Right now I’m in a homemade pizza rut.  Not complaining.  I had it twice last week (in one day) and I made it again today for lunch.

Breakfast
Scrambled eggs with milk and butter
Tomato
Ezekiel Bread  (I forgot to take a picture.  I know.  You’re devastated.)

Lunch

We had so much fun making pizzas with our friends last Friday we decided to do it again today!

Homemade whole wheat personal pizza.
One half is perfect pesto, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and artichokes
Other half tomato sauce mozzarella, turkey pepperoni, and olives.

Dinner
Chili (It was a perfect day for chili…cool and foggy.)

Spinach and Romain with Trader Joe’s Goddess Dressing.

When I asked Meow Cow to move he politely stared at me.

Snacks

I really didn’t have two snacks.  Instead I snacked and snacked all day.

I ate a lot of these.

And plenty of  BLN’s (bites licks and nibbles), as my friend Deb calls them,  of various things in the kitchen including but not limited too goat cheese and pesto.

It’s all good.  (Literally and figuratively.)

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

Bye bye Weekend!

May 16, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Food Journal

The weekend is over  :-( but I’m happy to say that I’m pleased with my food choices over the weekend.   Love the motivation my Bodybugg is giving me.  I also met my goal and lost 1 pound this week.  1 down and 11 to go!!   I also took my body fat measurements.  I was guessing I was at 20-22% but I came out a little higher at 23%.  Not sweating it…not at all!!!  I just use it as a guideline to measure progress.  Normally I prefer to use that measurement over weight to measure progress however due the the weight requirement of the RKC snatch test the scale is the most important right now.

Breakfast
Creme Filled Swedish Pancakes with Fresh Strawberries

Brent tweeked his recipe from yesterday to lower the calories and carbs a bit.  These were thinner than the crepes but every bit as delicious.  I’ll be posting the recipe on Tuesday!

Lunch

Simple Mediterranean Chicken
Brown Rice
Salad with My Favorite Dressing.  (I hadn’t made this in a long time.  It was great to have it again.)

I took a picture but didn’t save it in a new (to me) application I’m using (TiltShift Generator) so I lost them.  Oh well.

Snack

Strawberries

Dinner

I made a huge pot of chili (and had a BIG bowl for dinner) so I will have some quick easy meals this week.

I also had a salad topped with tomato, pear and  Favorite Dressing.

I haven’t added up my calories yet but I think I’m probably a little lower than I’d like.  It was one of those days where I was so busy I didn’t think to eat.  It’s rare that this happens.  I’m sure I’ll make up for it tomorrow.  ;-)

Strawberry Saturday

LAAAATE Breakfast
Crepes with a high protein cream cheese filling and topped with strawberries.
(Brent is tweeking this recipe as as type.  I love my husband.)

Lunch
Simple Mediterranean Chicken
Strawberries

It’s strawberry season here.  In fact, this weekend is the strawberry festival so I’ll be eating lots of them the next few weeks.

Snack
Maple Nut Cliff Bar (My favorite)

Dinner
Massive Salad (to try to make up for my lack of veggies earlier in the day) with Goddess Dressing
Grilled Buffalo Burger (I don’t really miss the bun so I often skip it.)

Dessert
2 tbs raw honey

Hugs and High Fives,

Busy Bee

May 14, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Uncategorized

Today was one of those days I almost forgot to breathe.  We are part of a huge (90+ families) homeschooling co-op and today was our last day with the open house.

Breakfast
This is my staple breakfast.  I eat this A LOT.
Eggs
Ezekiel Toast
Tomato

Lunch

Yes that’s a hot dog.  The co-op provided lunch.  I planned on packing mine but forgot.  I was going to eat the hotdog without guilt but then I change my mind.  Why? I asked myself if this was something I really wanted to feed my body and after pausing to think I decided it wasn’t.  If I would have been a Hebrew National I probably would have eaten it.

So  lunch ended up being a meager plate of veggies and strawberries.

Snack
Big bowl of strawberries
String Cheese

Dinner

This was the highlight of my day.  My in-laws took us out to a seafood restaurant  at the beach.

Appetizer
Artichoke Dip on Sourdough
Coconut Shrimp with Curry Sauce
Bit of slaw from the shrimp place

Main course

Brent and I ordered different main courses and split them.  We do this all the time when we can’t make up our minds.

I ate 1/2 of this sesame crusted seared Ahi with a cucumber wasabi sauce.

and

1/2 of this Pacific albacore in a light curry sauce.  The sauce was very similar to the curry dipping sauce for the shrimp but lighter.

I love curry.

Pizza Please

May 13, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Food Journal

So I can’t say I actually ate great today but I enjoyed it.

Breakfast
Two pieces of Ezekiel Bread French Toast
Eggs
(Yes those nasty brown looking things are the eggs we didn’t use for the french toast)
Tbs of Maple Syrup

Snack
I was so busy rushing around I forgot.

Lunch
Pizza at a friend’s house
Homemade breadstick
Salad

Snack
None. I always thought I ate two snacks a day but I’m realizing through my food journal I’m not as religious about it as I thought.

Dinner
Homemade pizza AGAIN.  Poor planning but I’m not complaining.  We had some dough that had to be used and when anyone Brent offers to make pizza I always take him up on it.
Greens from our CSA with balsamic.

I’m pretty proud of myself.  When I eat pizza I typically eat 10,000 pieces.  However, for dinner I ate just two and realized I was full.  I attribute some of that to the Bodybugg helping me slow down and listen to my body.

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

O6P Day 3

May 12, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Food Journal

It’s late but I don’t want to quit my food journal 2 days after I started (God only knows how many times I’ve done something like that) so here it goes.

Breakfast
2 Scrambled Eggs with Milk and Butter
Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Tomato
Decaf Coffee

Snack
Once again I wasn’t hungry until lunch.

Lunch
HUGE Greek Salad topped with left over grilled chicken.

It doesn’t look big in this picture but it was HUGE.

The original recipe came from The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook: Great-Tasting Recipes That Keep You Lean.  However, I’ve made it so many times I don’t look at the cookbook anymore and just eyeball everything.  It has Persian cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, red onion, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, kalamata olives, sea salt, and a ridiculous amount of oregano.

Snack
Sun dried  Tomato Artichoke Dip
Zucchini, Carrots, and (more) Cucumbers

Dinner
Simple Mediterranean Chicken
Brown Rice
Salad Green with Pear, Walnuts, Balsamic, Feta, and Olive OIl

Evening Snack
2 tbs Almond Butter with 1/2 tbs Raw Honey (Perfect dessert IMO)
String Cheese (I”ll assume you know what that looks like)

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn

Operation Six Pack Day 2

May 11, 2010 Author: Jenn | Filed under: Uncategorized

Food blogging is new to me.

I keep forgetting to take pictures.

Breakfast
Eggwhite omelet with sundried tomatoes and feta
Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Decaf Coffee
(the decaf is recent b/c one day my body told me it didn’t want caffeine anymore)

Snack

I forgot and by the time I realized I was hungry it was lunch time.  Lucky I didn’t eat the house.

Lunch

Salmon Patty (recipe to come)
Brown Rice with Mushrooms, Pine Nuts, Onion and Fresh Basil.
(Found the recipe in a since forgotten cookbook years ago. I just throw it all together now.)

Mixed Greens with Trader Joe’s Goddess Dressing

Snack

Sundried Tomato Artichoke Dip and Red Peppers
This is one of my older recipes and I always forget about it.  I’m going to try to remember it more often b/c it’s really good especially when I have cravings during PMS.

Dinner

Wild Salmon Fish Tacos With Cabbage and Salsa.

I’m still sort of hungry so I’ll probably go have something to eat before bed.  Probably a cheesestick.  One of my go to lazy girl foods.

Bodybugg update: Yesterday it told me I burned 2142 calories. That included an hour of taekwondo, 5 minutes of snatches, and hours of sitting on the couch.  Hmmm… The jury is still out. I’m hoping it is off by 10% and I really burned 2356 calories.  Either way I was in my calorie range yesterday and today.

Countdown to the RKC

May 10, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: Food Journal

Today was my first day back to counting calories in a long time.
I kinda liked it.
I know I’m weird.
Maybe the Bodybugg had something to do with it.

1 tbs shredded cheese
1 piece Ezekiel Bread (cinnamon raisin)
1 Trader Joe’s chicken breakfast sausage

Snack
2 eggs
1 pear

Lunch

Greens from my CSA with Trader Joe’s Goddess Dressing.

Yum!

Can I just say that I LOVE chili.  Like REALLY LOVE chili.
I’m going to start making a huge pot of it on the weekends or early in the week so I can enjoy it all week long.

Snack
Handful of walnuts
Ezekiel sprouted grain tortilla (toasted)

Dinner

Too much swiss chard and garlic
Over cooked roasted broccoli with melting laughing cow
Peppered steak

Hugs and High Fives,
Jenn
